CU Point – Services and information in one place

June 2021

Dear International Students,

You are reading the last issue of our newsletter of the summer semester, which means that the academic year is slowly coming to its end. If you are graduating from Charles University this year, do not forget to join the CU Alumni Club! This academic year was far from what we expected it to be, but we managed it together.

We are looking forward to seeing all international students at our events again in October! In case of any questions during the summer months, you may contact us at or +420 224 491 850. Good luck with all your exams and have a wonderful summer!

Newsletters for International Students

Did you miss our previous newsletter(s)? No worries, click here to have a look at our newsletter archive from the past months. We try to inform you regularly about the events and news at the university and life in the Czech Republic.

St Wenceslav Rotunda

A fascinating discovery was made during the reconstruction of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics building in Prague 1. You can now visit the historical rotunda, which was reopened in 2016 after almost 400 years, virtually from the comfort of your home. Read more in the CU magazine Forum.

School Supplies Charity

In cooperation with the non-profit organization Ponton, Charles University has organized a collection of school supplies for disadvantaged children. We would like to thank you for all the charity gifts.

Open Museums!

We have two recommendations for you! The unique exhibition Kings of the Sun in the National Museum shows the most significant archaeological discoveries of Czech Egyptologists. The Academy of Performing Arts celebrates 75 years since its foundation with an exhibition in the Kampa Park.

Green Prague

Did you know that Prague is the greenest metropolis in the world? Check the list of the most beautiful and freely accessible gardens, parks or forests in our capital city. There are many great options where you can run away from the city hustle or between classes!

Tips for Czech Movies

If you are interested in Czech movies, we recommend for instance the following ones: Šarlatán, Krajina ve stínu, Havel, Občanský průkaz, or Staříci. Some of these films recently received the prestigious Czech Lion Awards. We are looking forward to summer film festivals!

MFF Beer „πvO“

The unique cooperation between the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Research Institute of Brewing and Malting and Ferdinand Brewery has lead to the creation of the beer Pěkný číslo (referring to the number π). Give it a try! Available at:

Our Summer Tips!

Marie: During the summer, I cannot miss the international film festivals in Karlovy Vary, Uherské Hradiště or Slavonice. In Prague, I like to go to the Vojanovy sady park in the centre. Among my favourite locations outside of Prague are the Mikulov and Pálava regions in the south, Okoř castle or Křivoklát castle and the surroundings!

Zuzka: An excellent to-do list for summer would be visiting all the UNESCO sites outside of Prague. My favourites (and the ones closest to my childhood hometown) are Litomyšl and Kladruby nad Labem.

Petra: I love paddleboarding down the river in summer – you can have a go even in Prague in Žluté Lázně. A day trip down the Sázava river is also great. Just hop on a train and get to Týnec nad Sázavou and rent a boat there. If you are a city person visiting Brno is a must. Villa Tugendhat is one of a great many sights of this South Moravian city.
