Dear International Students,

The start of the new academic year 2021/2022 is here – welcome back! We would also like to warmly welcome all new freshmen students at Charles University (CU). Our newsletters will accompany you throughout the whole academic year. We will keep you updated on services for Charles University students and send you important news as well as invitations to upcoming events. This month, you are cordially invited to our Welcome Day for International Students, afternoon Running Session, webinar on Working While Studying – and much more!

As a part of the Rectorate, CU Point is here to guide you through your studies. We will do our best to help you with your studies as well as with practical issues. All of our services and events are free of charge.

Welcome Day

6. 10. We invite all new international degree students to our Welcome Day on October 6 from 15:00 in Kampus Hybernská (Prague 1) and online. Join us to get acquainted with Charles University, find answers to your questions related to studies at CU, and win great prizes in our giveaway!

12. 10. Do you want to start running? Or do you want to improve your running style and find motivation? Join us in the Stromovka park in Prague 7 for our Running Training with the experienced running trainer and Charles University sports teacher, Mgr. Pavel Šodek.

Working While Studying: Ask a Lawyer!

21. 10. Working abroad triggers many questions, and if you want to learn about the working conditions for international students living in the Czech Republic, this online workshop is for you. A comprehensible summary will be given by Jakub Tomšej from the Faculty of Law.


Welcome to the Czech Republic

4. 11. This online integration course for non-EU students will provide you with important information for your stay in Czechia – especially during the first months. You may ask questions concerning your residence legislation, visas, employment, housing, health insurance etc.

Student Support Group in English

Carolina Centre is opening a student support group in English. Come to share your challenges with others, get to know other international as well as Czech students, and, if needed, get psychological help. The group will meet in hybrid format on Thursdays from 19:00 to 20:30.

Czech for Ph.D. Students

Dobrý den! Učím se česky. If you are a Ph.D. student, join our online Czech language courses for beginners and advanced learners. More information is available here. Registrations: Survival Czech: Module 1Survival Czech: Module 3.

CU Adaptation Course

If you are a new international student, check the series of videos prepared by the university and presented by our students. The videos introduce Charles University, study regulations and available support, as well as tips about life in Czechia.

CU Point

CU Point is here for all applicants, students, employees and graduates of Charles University. We answer your questions, issue student cards and organize various events. Do not hesitate to get in touch with us by phone +420 224 491 850 or email throughout the academic year.


Student Cards

CU Point issues student ID cards either with or without the ISIC licence. The main Card Service Centre is located at Celetná 13, Prague 1. Apart from your domestic faculty, student cards are also used in dorms, canteens and libraries. Opening hours of the Card Service Centres are available here.

Support for Students With Special Needs

CU provides support for students with special needs. To be able to use the services, it is necessary to register by October 31. The steps on how to register are available here. For information regarding the offered services, check our website.

Discover CU Resources

Discovery service UKAŽ has a new form and new features. You may now search CU resources, renew loans, make requests, and much more under a single account, via one online registration. Search for printed, digitized and electronic resources all in one place!

Become a Star of the Academic Heavens

30 Years of CERGE-EI

CERGE-EI (Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education – Economics Institute), a joint workplace of Charles University and the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year!

Nerd Art Prize Contest

The Chaperon ERA Research Club invites you to participate in the Nerd Art Prize contest by sending your best scientific photo or picture. The contest is organized by the CU Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen, and all CU students are welcome to take part!



Visit the National Theatre With a Discount!

One of the most remarkable buildings in Prague – the golden National Theatre – celebrates 140 years since its opening in 1881. First-year students may enjoy a 50% discount on all performances. Furthermore, all students under 26 years are eligible for a discount with the student card – choose from drama, ballet, concerts or opera!

Our Students‘ Sport Achievements

Ten CU students and alumni represented the Czech Republic in the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. Moreover, for our country, these Olympic Games were the most successful in terms of medals. Also, recently our students celebrated sports achievements in basketball and rowing. We are proud to be the alma mater of such outstanding athletes and sportsmen!
