Czech Easter Traditions

Will you be spending Easter in the Czech Republic? Many Czech Easter symbols are related to spring and the beginning of new life. Traditionally, you can see the colourful hand-painted and decorated eggs (kraslice) or decorations with baby animals such as chicken, bunny or lamb. Many Czech families eat nádivka (stuffing with spinach and other herbs). The delicious baked Easter bun mazanec or lamb-shaped cake beránek is served for dessert. Did you know that if a girl is whipped with fresh braided willow rods (pomlázka), it will bring her health and youth? Happy Easter and Veselé Velikonoce!
